All About Vocational Rehabiliation
Our Clients in need of employment come to us through Vocational Rehabilitation.
Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) is a federal-state program that works with people who have physical or mental disabilities to help them prepare for, gain or retain employment. VR is committed to helping people with disabilities find meaningful careers.
In order to qualify for VR you must have a physical or mental disability that is an impediment to you finding and maintaining stable employment.
If you receive Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI), you are presumed eligible for VR services if you intend to become employed.
Once set up with your local VR office, you can now request Prestige Workforce to be your employment service provider if you feel we are a good fit for your employment needs!
On-The-Job Training
On-the-Job Training (OJT) is an opportunity for local employers to mentor a person with a disability, helping them cultivate the skills needed to realize their career goals. There is no liability to future employer partners regarding insurance or wages. We will take care of these items.
Once a client completes an OJT, the employer partner may extend a job offer without incurring any fees from Prestige Workforce.
The usual length of an OJT is six to eight weeks. Training length is based on employer needs, and complexity of the job. Although employers are not obligated to offer a job at the completion of an OJT, extending a job offer to a candidate would be awesome.
Also, there are tax incentives to working with someone that has received services from Vocational Rehabilitation. Click here to learn more about the Work Opportunity Tax Credit Program. To find out more about OJT please visit http://www.rehabworks.org/ojt.shtml.
Self-Advocacy Training:
Self-Advocacy Training is a service designed to prepare individuals on how to better communicate their strengths, abilities, interest, and needs when interviewing with potential employers or applying to trade schools, colleges, or universities. Students who participate in this service learn how to represent themselves and make decisions that affect their lives. Throughout the training, students learn skills that increase confidence and self-esteem while helping them develop a sense of independence and self-empowerment
Youth Peer Mentoring
VR Youth Peer Mentoring is time-limited, self-advocacy training service where a Mentor/peer who is close in age (within approximately 6 years) teaches the youth through a one-on-one mentoring relationship how to self-advocate for community, social and professional services and supports.
VR Transition Youth Services help students with disabilities train for a job, continue their education, or find a job after high school. Under this program, every youth will have the opportunity to participate in sponsored career counseling, work readiness training, and fully integrated work experiences in the community. These services are delivered while youth are still in high school and establish the foundation for a seamless transition to individualized training, education, and employment.
